Browse by UTC offset

The live time at every UTC offset in use, west to east, and exactly which places sit on each one right now.

Clocks change for daylight saving twice a year, so an offset's line-up can change with the season. Example: New York is at UTC−4 right now (daylight saving) and UTC−5 in winter.

How time zones work

A time zone is a region of the world that keeps the same official time. Every zone is defined as an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the global reference kept by atomic clocks. When it is 12:00 UTC, a city at UTC−5 reads 07:00 and a city at UTC+9 reads 21:00. The clocks on this page are all measured against UTC, so they stay in step with each other to the second.

Offsets run from UTC−12 in the far west Pacific to UTC+14 in the Line Islands of Kiribati: a 26-hour spread, which is why two places can be on different calendar dates at the same instant. Most offsets are whole hours, but a few regions sit on the half-hour (India at UTC+5:30) or even the quarter-hour (Nepal at UTC+5:45). The International Date Line, roughly along the 180° meridian, is where each new day begins.

Many countries also shift their clocks for daylight saving time (DST), moving forward an hour in spring and back in autumn. Because not every region observes DST, and those that do change on different dates, the gap between two cities isn't fixed: London and New York are usually 5 hours apart, but for a couple of weeks each year they're 4. Every clock here is DST-aware and recalculates automatically, so a conversion is correct whatever the season.

To find a place quickly, use the search box above, click a continent on the map, or open a region below. Each city has its own page with a live clock, current UTC offset, upcoming daylight-saving change, sunrise and sunset, and time differences to other cities, and the time zone converter and meeting planner turn any of them into a side-by-side comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How many time zones are there in the world?
There are 24 standard time zones spaced one hour apart from UTC, but in practice clocks around the world show about 38 distinct offsets because some regions use 30- or 45-minute offsets (such as India at UTC+5:30 or Nepal at UTC+5:45). Daylight saving time adds even more variation at any given moment.
What is the difference between UTC and GMT?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global standard that all time zones are measured against; it is kept by atomic clocks and never shifts for daylight saving. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is a time zone that happens to equal UTC+0. In everyday use the two are interchangeable, but UTC is the precise technical reference.
What is daylight saving time (DST)?
Daylight saving time is the practice of moving clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn to make better use of daylight. Not every country observes it, and start/end dates differ by region, which is why the time difference between two cities can change a few times a year. Every clock on this page is DST-aware and stays correct through those changes.
How do I find the current time in a specific city?
Use the search box at the top of the page to jump straight to any city, or click a region on the map (or its section below) to browse cities by continent. Each city links to a detailed page with its live clock, UTC offset, DST schedule, and time differences to other cities.
Which places have the earliest and latest time in the world?
The day begins first in the UTC+14 zone (the Line Islands of Kiribati) and last in UTC−12 (Baker and Howland Islands). At any single moment there can be a 26-hour spread of local dates across the globe.
How accurate are the clocks on this page?
Each clock is computed from your device's time and our database of 160,000 locations and time zones, using the same daylight-saving rules operating systems use, and ticks every second. Time-zone rules occasionally change by law; our database is updated weekly to reflect them.
