Clock changes and time differences
Sydney moves its clocks twice a year; the next change is on October 4, 2026.
Sydney and New York City change clocks on different dates, so until October 4, 2026 the usual difference is off by one hour.
Good to know
- Since June 2025 the ASX opens with one single auction at 10:00. The old staggered open by company letter is gone.
- The closing auction prints at a random moment between 4:10 and 4:11 p.m., after a ten-minute order period from 4:00.
- Sydney's daylight saving is opposite to the northern hemisphere, so the gap to US and European markets swings twice a year in both directions.

What are ASX trading hours?
Continuous trading runs 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sydney time, Monday to Friday, opened by a single auction at 10:00. The closing auction prints between 4:10 and 4:11 p.m.
When is the ASX open in US Eastern Time?
The 10:00 a.m. Sydney open is 7:00 p.m. Eastern the previous evening in the US summer and 6:00 p.m. in the US winter, and both sides change clocks on different dates. The conversion above is always current.
Does the ASX still open alphabetically?
Not any more. The staggered open, where stocks opened in groups by company name, was abolished in June 2025. All stocks now open together in one auction at 10:00 a.m.
Is the ASX open on ANZAC Day?
The ASX closes on ANZAC Day only when April 25 falls on a weekday. In 2026 it falls on a Saturday, so there is no extra market closure.
