Why does SIX close earlier than other European exchanges?
Continuous trading ends at 5:20 p.m. so the closing auction can finish by 5:30, when London and Frankfurt are still running their final minutes. A countdown to the real auction time is exactly what this page shows.
Is SIX open on Swiss holidays?
No. The exchange closes for about ten days a year, including Berchtold's Day on January 2, Ascension Day and Whit Monday. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are full closures, not half days.
When does SIX overlap with US trading?
The US regular session opens at 3:30 p.m. Central European Time, so the markets share just under two hours before Zurich's 5:20 close. In clock-change weeks the overlap shifts by an hour.
